Cuauhtémoc is a municipality with about 155,000 inhabitants in the Mexican state of Chihuahua . The municipality has an area of 3613.2 km². The administrative seat and largest place of the municipality is Cuauhtémoc .

The municipality of Cuauhtémoc is located in the center of the state of Chihuahua at an altitude between 1800 m and 2900 m . 97% of the municipality belong to the physiographic province of the Sierra Madre Occidental . 92% of it is in the endorheic basin of the Cuencas Cerradas del Norte (Casas Grandes) , a good 4% is in the hydrological region Bravo - Conchos and drains into the Gulf of Mexico , the remaining almost 4% is in the Sonora Sur region and drains in the Gulf of California . The geology of the municipality is determined by 41% conglomerate rock with 29% rhyolite tuff , 17% basalt and 7% alluvion ; The predominant soil types in the municipality are Leptosol (25%), Luvisol (21%), Phaeozem (19%), Regosol and Vertisol (each just under 11%). 43% of the community area is used for arable farming, 34% is forested, 17% is used as pasture land.
The municipality borders on the Municipios Namiquipa , Riva Palacio , Santa Isabel , Gran Morelos , Cusihuiriachi , Guerrero and Bachíniva .

In the 2010 census, 154,639 people in 42,356 residential units were counted in the municipality. Of these, 2,284 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including 1,837 speakers of the Tarahumara language . 2.3 percent of the population were illiterate. 61,586 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which a good 68.5% were men and 3.3% were unemployed. 5.1 percent of the population lived in extreme poverty.
