Music year 1502
Josquin Desprez
The foundation for the fame of Josquin Desprez - here on an illustration from 1611 - was laid by the printer and publisher Ottaviano dei Petrucci . No other composer is taken into account so extensively and so demonstratively in the prints of his publisher. This is also confirmed by the volume Misse Josquin from 1502 as the first print in music history to contain only works by a single composer.

  • Loyset Compère is prévôt (provost) at the collegiate church of Saint-Pierre in Douai until 1503 or 1504 . A document from those years shows that it is now baccalaureus utrisque juris (a degree of both rights).
  • After leaving the papal chapel, Josquin Desprez moved to the court chapel of the French King Louis XII , at least from 1501 to 1503 . († 1515). Deprez and the composer Johannes Ghiselin , also a member of the court orchestra of the French king, were poached to the court chapel of Duke Ercole I. d'Este in Ferrara in 1503 . Duke Ercole has been looking for a new conductor since the death of Johannes Martini in 1497 and, with the help of his agent Girolamo da Sestola (called "Coglia") and his son Alfonso d'Este, after a diplomatic meeting with Louis XII. looking for candidates in France and maybe even negotiating with Josquin. Another Ercoles agent, Gian de Artiganova , was looking for singers for Ercole's court orchestra in Savoy and from there named Heinrich Isaac as a possible candidate for the direction of the orchestra .
  • Jean Mouton , who at the collegiate Saint-André in Grenoble is hired to the Kapellknaben "in organo et planu cantu" train, receives from April 1 the higher salary of a presbyter for life , yet he has this position in life before the 27th Abandoned July without permission from the Chapter. June on the trip to Genoa made a visit to Grenoble and apparently lured the composer for the royal chapel of the Queen on this occasion.

Italy

  • Marco Cara has been a lute virtuoso in the service of the Gonzaga family in Mantua since 1495 and until 1525 , who promoted artists of all kinds in his day.
  • Heinrich Isaac , who had been employed as a “composer and servant” at the Habsburg court since 1497 , lived again mainly in Florence from 1502 to 1506 , where he made payments to the Santa Maria Nuova hospital in 1502 (and 1504) for his own pension and for his wife power. On August 15, 1502, in his first will, deposited in the church of Santa Maria dei Servi, he decreed that he should be buried in this church and appointed his wife as sole heir. He also acts as a trustee for his widowed sister-in-law Margherita, who was married to the singer Charles de Launoy, on the occasion of their remarriage and takes care of Maria de Launoy, Margherita's daughter. Isaac also stayed in Ferrara in 1502 , where the music-loving Duke Ercole I. d'Este was looking for a successor to lead his court orchestra and he was considering a job with either Heinrich Isaac or Josquin Desprez . The representative Gian de Artiganova wrote to Duke Ercole on September 2, 1502:

“I must inform Your Grace that Isaac was the singer in Ferrara and wrote a motet on a fantasy titled 'La mi la sol la sol la mi'; this is very good, and he wrote it in two days. One can only conclude from this that he is very quick at the art of composition; otherwise he is benign and sociable. ... he stipulated that he had a month to answer whether he wanted to serve or not. We have… promised him 10 ducats a month… I think he is well suited to serve Your Grace, better than Josquin, because he is more amiable to his musicians and wants to compose new works more often. That Josquin composes better is correct, but he composes when he wants to and not when you expect him to, and he demands 200 ducats as a reward while Isaac wants to come for 120 ... "
