Doping and Exclusions

In March 2017, the Russian Viktorija Valyukevich , who initially ranked eighth, was subsequently disqualified for doping abuse.

The Romania Patrícia Mamona, who with her 14.11 m could have participated in the final, and the Cuban Yargelis Savigne, who would have allowed three more attempts in the final, were affected by this cheating.

Even before the games, the Greek Paraskevi Papachristou was banned from the Greek NOK because of a racist comment on Twitter .

qualification

August 3, 2012, 10:25 am

The qualification was carried out in two groups. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 14.40 m. Since only four jumpers exceeded this distance (highlighted in light blue), the final field was filled with the next best athletes from both groups to twelve participants (highlighted in light green). In the end, 14.16 m were necessary to reach the final. In the end, however, only eleven athletes made it into the final ranking, as one of these athletes was doped.

final

Award ceremony:
front Ibargüen (silver), middle Rypakowa (gold), back Saladucha (bronze)

August 5, 2012, 7:35 pm

Twelve athletes had qualified for the final, four of them beyond the qualification range. another eight about their placements. However, only eleven jumpers made it to the final score because one participant was doped. Two Ukrainians and two Jamaicans fought for the medals together with one athlete each from Great Britain, Kazakhstan, Colombia, Cuba, Russia, Slovakia and Slovenia. Then there was the doped Russian.

The favorites were the medalists of the 2011 World Championships : World Champion Olha Saladucha from Ukraine, Vice World Champion Olga Rypakowa from Kazakhstan and third Caterine Ibargüen from Colombia. The Cuban Yargelis Savigne was also highly rated.

Rypakowa took the lead in the first lap with 14.54 m before Ibargüen with 14.45 m. In the second attempt Saladucha improved to 14.48 m and thus passed Ibargüen. However, she was behind her compatriot Hanna Knjasjewa, who had reached 14.56 m, in third place. In the third round, Rypakowa extended their lead to 14.98 m, Ibargüen scored 14.67 m and moved to second position in front of Knjasjewa and Saladucha, who scored 14.53 m in the fourth round, but could not improve their placement . The fifth round showed no change in the ranking. In the last attempt Ibargüen came to 14.80 m, while Saladucha with 14.79 m still overtook Knjasjewa, but missed the silver medal by two centimeters. With the same distance, Ibargüen would have stayed in second place due to her better second distance.

Olga Rypakowa won the first medal and Kazakhstan's first Olympic gold in the women's triple jump .
Caterine Ibargüen was the first Colombian medalist in this discipline.
