Peace & Love was a cultural festival that took place annually in June / July in the Swedish city ​​of Borlänge until 2012 and attracted over 20,000 visitors. The Peace & Love saw itself as being shaped by a positive message and reflection, and each had a topic from the areas of diversity , community and understanding . With over 40,000 tickets sold, Peace & Love was the largest Swedish festival in 2009. In 1999 the first festival of the Peace & Love Association was held. In the following years the number of visitors and musicians grew. Since 2006, themed days with debates, workshops, lectures and seminars have been held before the music festival. In 2007 Peace & Love was the second largest festival in Sweden with 25,000 visitors a day.

Embassy

Peace & Love's basic message was about diversity, community and understanding. Therefore Peace & Love wanted to address everyone who wants to create a more peaceful and loving world together. The message was highlighted by an annually changing theme. Since 2006, theme days have been organized before the actual festival.

Participants such as Folke Rydén, Mian Lodalen, Izzy Young, America Vera- Zavala, all political youth associations in Sweden, as well as many different people and organizations raised the bar for upcoming annual topics and their theme days.

Among the speakers were the British artist, writer and musician Malcolm McLaren, the former minister of education Leif Pagrotsky, the journalist Göran Greider, the author Marcus Birro and the author Mian Lodalen.

Peace & Love Santiago de Chile

In 2008 the concept of Peace & Love was exported to South America, where a festival of the same name was held in Santiago de Chile . Swedish and Chilean artists performed. The festival should also take place annually in Chile.

Development of the festival

The first festival in 1999 was held in the Bolanche pub in the center of Borlänges. A year later the festival moved to Cozmoz, a local youth disco, and some of it was even moved to Folkets Park (city park). In 2001 the festival got its new look, moved to Borlänges center and had about 3,000 visitors. The following year the number of visitors rose to around 3,500. In the following year the festival had a big boom and was attended by around 8,000 people. In the years 2004–2005 the number of visitors rose to around 10,000 visitors a day. The event continued to grow - in 2006, 15,000 tickets were sold a day - and was one of the largest festivals in Sweden. The number of tickets sold for Peace & Love in 2007 was around 20,000.

On May 23, 2008, Peace & Love completed the sale of the 25,000 festival passes in record time and experienced a rush of visitors that had never been seen before. More camping passes were being sold and camping options were expanding due to the large number of visitors that would come.

Bands

Several bands were regulars at Peace & Love. So z. B. Borlange bands Mando Diao and Sugarplum Fairy have performed there every year since 2001.

Reception in popular culture

The singer Miss Li from Borlänge mentions in the lyrics of her song Dancing the Whole Way Home the festival during which the protagonist falls in love.
