Port Colborne is a city in the Regional Municipality of Niagara in the southwest of the Canadian province of Ontario in Canada .

location

The city is located in the south of the regional municipality on the shores of Lake Erie in the hills of the Niagara layer stage . From here the Welland Canal leads north to Lake Ontario .

history

Port Colborne was founded by settlers around 1830. Due to the population growth in the mid-19th century, Port Colborne was referred to as a village in 1870. The designation as a city, with the granting of city ​​rights , was achieved in 1966.
