Port Colborne is a city in the Regional Municipality of Niagara in the southwest of the Canadian province of Ontario in Canada .

The city is located in the south of the regional municipality on the shores of Lake Erie in the hills of the Niagara layer stage . From here the Welland Canal leads north to Lake Ontario .
history
Port Colborne was founded by settlers around 1830. Due to the population growth in the mid-19th century, Port Colborne was referred to as a village in 1870. The designation as a city, with the granting of city rights , was achieved in 1966.

Port Colborne residents work in the many medium-sized businesses in the city. Port Colborne is a major agricultural and tourism center in Canada. The most important branch of agriculture is the cultivation of fruit and vegetables and, to a lesser extent, viticulture in the hills of the Niagara layer (see viticulture in Canada ).
The city is in the southeastern end of the metropolitan area known as the Golden Horseshoe .
In 2016 the population was 18,306.
