Qatar Classic 2017

The Qatar Classic 2017 took place from October 29 to November 3, 2017 at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha , Qatar . The men's squash tournament was part of the PSA World Tour 2017/18 and belonged to the PSA World Series category .

Last year's winner was Karim Abdel Gawad , who was eliminated in the second round by Simon Rösner . Rösner reached the semifinals of a World Series tournament for the first time in his career. He was eliminated in this against Tarek Momen , who had defeated the higher seeded Nick Matthew in the quarterfinals . In his first final at the World Series, Momen met Mohamed Elshorbagy , who had defeated world number leader Grégory Gaultier in three sets in the semifinals . El Shorbagy won the final game with 11: 8, 10:12, 11: 7 and 11: 7. For Elshorbagy this was the third title win at the Qatar Classic and the 28th in his career.

The field of participants in the men's competition consisted of 32 players, eight of which were starting places for qualifiers. The eight best players were seeded. Per Wildcard received Abdulla Mohd Al Tamimi a spot in the main draw.

Prize money and world ranking points

At the tournament, the following prize money and world ranking points were paid out or credited for reaching the respective round. Players who entered the main field from qualification received the specified qualification points in addition to those for reaching the respective round. Otherwise the amounts are not to be understood as cumulative. The total prize pool was $ 165,000.
