history
Sauldorf, Rast and Roth were clerical territory until 1803. They belonged to the Benedictine Abbey Petershausen until its dissolution and were subordinate to the Petershausen Obervogteiamt Herdwangen . The monastery was secularized in 1802 and fell to the Margraviate of Baden . When the area of the Obervogteiamt Herdwangen was to come to Baden , Austria raised objections, so that the Petershausen areas were initially placed under sequestration, but then finally came to Baden in 1808. This is with the exception of the town of Rast, which was initially part of the Principality of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen , but was then exchanged in 1812 for the town of Ablach, which had become Baden for a short time two years earlier . So Rast came to the Baden district of Meßkirch .
The Second World War ended in Sauldorf on April 22, 1945 when French troops reached the place.
The current municipality was formed under the name Wasser in the course of the municipal reform in Baden-Württemberg on January 1, 1974 by the union of the municipalities of Bietingen, Boll, Krumbach, Rast, Sauldorf and Wasser and renamed Sauldorf on June 25, 1974 . All districts of today's Sauldorf community belonged to the Stockach district until December 31, 1972 .

Buildings
- There are two churches in the small village: The old Catholic St. Sebastian Church is only 150 meters away from the Roman Catholic church of the same name. This was built in the baroque style in 1832/33 and has neo-baroque frescoes by Kitschger. In the parish church there was once a wood carved altar, a Gothic Marian retable with an altarpiece, in the center Maria with the baby Jesus, Sebastian, Katharina, Barbara and Johannes the Baptist from the workshop of Niklaus Weckmann , carved from linden wood, today called "Rother Altar", originally Until the 19th century in the parish church of Sauldorf and on the occasion of a renovation to Roth. 1909 sold to the Reiss-Engelhorn-Museum Mannheim .
- The Catholic parish church of St. John the Baptist is located in the district of Krumbach . It was originally dedicated to Saints John the Baptist and Oswald. It was Ortlof von Heuberg zu Waldsberg who changed and rebuilt the late Gothic church in 1522 . The west-facing stepped gable with a Gothic portal with dimension windows is more reminiscent of a defiant fortified castle than a church. The northern tower with a gable roof was built in the 12th century. The choir is adorned with a ribbed vault with Gothic window axes. The church has a valuable high altar and paintings from different artistic periods. The first high altar belonging to the late Gothic church building was probably stolen in the Thirty Years War or fell victim to a change in style. The high altar sheet with the baptism of Jesus, created in 1722 by the Prince-Bishop of Constance court painter Johann Jakob Lenz from Meßkirch, is also considered lost . This master also painted the coffered ceiling with the Assumption of Mary and the evangelists lining it. Today's winged altar was erected at the turn of the year 1898 by the Marmon art workshop from Sigmaringen for 4,500 marks, as a “stylish” late Gothic winged altar with a crucifix in the tabernacle. The altars, delicately carved from linden wood, are gilded and built up as flower heads. A large family picture with the crucified one hangs on the north side of the nave. The votive picture painted after 1526 shows the extended family of the knight Ortlof von Heudorf zu Waldsperg and his wife. The church was completely renovated between 2004 and 2007. The organ with 576 pipes on the gallery has been used since 1870 and is one of two surviving pieces by the master organ builder Samuel Friedrich Ruff from Grosselfingen. After it had been shut down for around ten years and was replaced by a small instrument in the chancel, it was renovated in 2009 for 86,000 euros. The original donation board of the knight Ortolf von Heudorf zu Waldsberg's family hangs in the church . The board includes all 18 children of the knight family by name. The description in the picture is in Latin. Knight's Ortolf von Heudorf zu Waldsberg , who had the small church modernized and enlarged in the late Gothic period, was someone who remained true to the old faith, because the Krumbach lord of the castle was at one with the Messkirchen baron Werner von Zimmer on the religious issue. The image of the founder in the church may also stand for this declaration of loyalty to his church. It was probably painted by the master of Sigmaringen around 1535 .
- In Bichtlingen there is the Catholic village church of St. Matthew from 1951. The tile-roofed branch church with its bell tower faces west. In the entrance area it has a step system in front of the main portal. The facade was renovated, damaged areas were repaired and painted white, and the roof was completed in 2011. Inside, the church was renovated between 2002 and 2004. Saint Matthew's patronage is September 21.
- The Catholic Church of St. Cyriak is located in Bietingen and was partially restored in 2007.
- The St. Sebastiani Chapel is located in Roth .
- The remains of a former moth can be found on Schlossbühl near Reute . Nearby was the village of “Schonloch”, which was lost 700 years ago.
Natural monuments
- The nature reserve "Sauldorfer lakes" consists of a series of five lined up former quarry along the railway tracks of hegau Ablachtal train southwest of Sauldorf. The nature reserve offers the flora and fauna a rich refuge. After the gravel was excavated, the lakes have become a true bird paradise. For example, the rare black-necked grebes and the red pochard live in the reserve . One of the lakes was converted into an amphibian biotope. Shallow water zones for amphibians , butterflies and dragonflies were created on several hectares . There were black storks are observed which have settled in Baden-Württemberg only at two locations. They are part of a total of ten lakes that make up the Sauldorf Lake District and all of which were created in connection with the wet extraction of gravel. The Lake 1 is of the gravel company Valet and Ott used until 2017 for the extraction of gravel wash water and the initiation of Schlämmmateriel. From 2010 the water surface will be transformed into a biotope.
- The nature reserve " Waltere Moor " is a 90 hectare transitional moor between low and high moor , which is maintained exclusively through surface water. It drains through four side ditches of the Rinkenbach to the Ablach . The Rinkenbach is one meter lower than the Waltere. To secure the water level in the Sauldorfer Moor, willow rod bearings were built into the side trenches in April 2010.
