Sədərək (Rayon)
Sadarak district is a rayon in Azerbaijan in the Autonomous Republic of Nakhichevan . The capital of the district is the city of Heydərabad . The district includes the Kərki exclave , which is located in Armenia and has been occupied by Armenia since the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict .
geography
The district has an area of 151 km² and borders on Armenia to the north and east , the river Aras forms the natural border with Iran . In the west the rayon borders on Turkey .
population
The rayon had 14,000 inhabitants in 2009. These are spread over three villages and one larger settlement.
economy
Agriculture is practiced almost exclusively in the area, with a winery being the only processing company.
Culture
There are archaeological sites in the towns of Sədərək, Gultepe, Chanag and Kerki. In Sədərək are the ruins of a fortress of the Urartu Empire .
