St. Martin-Karlsbach (also Sankt Martin-Karlsbach ) is a market town with 1640 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Melk district in Lower Austria .

geography

St. Martin-Karlsbach is located in the Mostviertel in Lower Austria. The area of ​​the market town covers 24.94 square kilometers. 36.41 percent of the area is forested.

Community structure

The municipality includes the following three localities (population in brackets as of January 1, 2020):

  • Ennsbach (378) including Habich, Mehlberg, Oed and Winkl
  • Karlsbach (254) including Pfaffenberg and planting bed
  • St. Martin am Ybbsfelde (1008) including Bernau, Donauleiten, Eitzing, Ess, Graben, Kniebichl, Neuhaus, Nöfang, Hengstberg, Obernberg, plant bed and Scheiterbichl

The community consists of the cadastral communities Karlsbach and St. Martin .

history

In ancient times, the area was part of the Noricum province .

The community capital St. Martin am Ybbsfelde was first mentioned in 1147. In 1969, today's community was created through the merger of the communities of St Martin am Ybbsfelde and Karlsbach. The market survey took place in 2000.

Population development

According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 1728 inhabitants. In 1991 the market town had 1,702 inhabitants, in 1981 1,535 and in 1971 1,435 inhabitants.

The population of the individual localities (VZ 2001): St. Martin 698, Ennsbach 411, Karlsbach 309, Hengstberg 194, Neuhaus 116.

St. Martin am Ybbsfelde
  • Parish church St. Martin am Ybbsfelde : Gothic choir with wall paintings from the 14th century, modern extension from 1988. Remarkable octave bell (oldest dated bell worldwide, re. 1200): the peace bell of Saint Martin .
  • Rectory: to the west of the church, mentioned in a document in 1393, mighty building with a rectangular courtyard and transverse barn, restored in 1995.

In 2001 there were 34 non-agricultural workplaces, agricultural and forestry operations according to the 1999 survey 121. The number of people in work at home was 816 according to the 2001 census. In 2001, the activity rate was 47.62 percent.
