Culture and sights

Skull stone
Natural monuments
  • Totenkopfstein: In the cleft of the rock a skull-like structure, looking north, where, according to the Germanic people, the realm of the dead and the castle of the gods were located. This stone also seems to have fascinated people long before us. A square seat is cut into its top, which in this case cannot be a washout, but is the work of man.
  • Heart stone: The approximately five-meter-high rock, which looks astonishingly like an erected human heart, stands in the midst of meter-high heather grass. A small, already existing gap was widened on its support so that a person can now crawl through. Such crawling through particularly striking bottlenecks was once a cult custom that should help to get rid of physical suffering. It is noticeable that the heart (as in the other old cult sites) is upside down. It also has nothing to do with the human heart, but rather represents a double female cult site, namely mother's breast and womb. This cult symbol can be found very often in the Waldviertel .

economy

In 2001 there were 32 non-agricultural workplaces, and according to the 1999 survey there were 120 in agriculture and forestry. According to the 2001 census, the number of people in employment at home was 510. In 2001, the employment rate was 45.32 percent.

Sports

In addition to the St. Oswald Sports and Culture Association, the Sports Union with the tennis, stick shooting, gymnastics and beach volleyball sections ensures a sporty life in St. Oswald.
