Several armories for the manufacture of ammunition emerged in the municipality in the 18th century, such as landmines made of iron and lead from the most famous forge Farga Real San Sebastian .

Population development
The municipality consists of three districts, Riberada d'Amunt, Riberada d'Avall and the administrative center of Sant Llorenç de la Muga. Due to the topographical situation, agriculture, cattle breeding and the timber industry flourished in the 18th century. In addition to the cloth makers, ore mining and an ammunition plant also contributed to the economic boom. In the middle of the 19th century there were over 1100 inhabitants in the city. Due to the decline in agriculture, the industrial timber industry and increasing ore imports later led to rural exodus, so that on January 1, 2019, only 264 inhabitants lived in Sant Llorenç de la Muga.
