Schiguli ( Russian Жигули , German  Reckeln , Lithuanian Rėkliai ) is a place in the Russian Oblast of Kaliningrad . It belongs to the local government unit Stadtkreis Gusev in Gusevsky District .

Geographical location

Schiguli is twelve kilometers southwest of the city of Gussew (Gumbinnen) and can be reached via a cul-de-sac from Mayakovskoye (Nemmersdorf) . There is no train connection.

history

The village called Roekelheim at the time was first mentioned in 1556. Before 1945 the place consisted only of a few small farms and homesteads. Between 1874 and 1945 Reckeln belonged to the District Nemmersdorf in district Gumbinnen in Administrative district Gumbinnen the Prussian province of East Prussia .

In 1910 there were 94 inhabitants registered in Reckeln. Their number decreased to 62 by 1933 and was 63 in 1933.

As a result of the war, Reckeln came to the Soviet Union in 1945 along with all of northern East Prussia . In 1950 the place was given the Russian name Shiguli and was assigned to the village soviet Mayakovsky selski sovet in Gusew Rajon . From 2008 to 2013 Shiguli belonged to the rural community Mayakovskoye selskoje posselenije and since then to the urban district of Gusew.

The majority of the residents of Reckeln were of Protestant denomination before 1945 and the place was therefore parish into the parish of the Nemmersdorf church. It belonged to the church district Gumbinnen in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union . Today Shiguli is in the catchment area of ​​the Evangelical Lutheran congregation in Krasnoyarskoje (Sodehnen) , a branch of the Salzburg Church in Gussew (Gumbinnen) within the Kaliningrad (Königsberg) provost of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of European Russia .
