The Shanghai Masters (officially Rolex Shanghai Masters ) is a Chinese men's tennis tournament . The tournament was first held in 2009 and is part of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 series. When the Masters tournament in Madrid changed dates and surfaces and replaced the tournament in Hamburg , the Shanghai Masters took over its role from 2009. The competition is held on hard courts in the Qi-Zhong Stadium , where the Tennis Masters Cup took place from 2005 to 2008 . The stadium is the second largest tennis facility in Asia after the Olympic Tennis Center in Beijing.

The record winner of the tournament is Novak Đoković with four titles in singles and Marcelo Melo with three titles in doubles.
