Sook is a small town and sub-district in Sabah , Malaysia . Sook is located on the Sungai Sook river of the same name , 170 kilometers by car from Kota Kinabalu and belongs to the Keningau district in the Interior Division .
Demographics
According to population statistics from 2002, the Sook sub-district has 37,815 inhabitants. The population in this area is a mix of the Murut originally living here and immigrants from all over Sabah, especially Christian and Muslim Dusun .
Origin of name
"sook" comes from the Murut language and describes a method of getting water out of the river without running the risk of falling victim to one of the many crocodiles that can be found in the rivers in the Sook area. To do this, coconut shells or bamboo tubes are tied to a string and lowered into the river.

education
A total of 40 primary schools are spread across the municipal area of Sook. Secondary schools are located in Mukim Sook and Tulid.
Public facilities
Medical care for the population is provided by two medical care centers ( Pusat Kesihatan ) and five polyclinics for outpatient treatment ( Kelinik Desa ).
In 2008 Sook did not have a police station of his own, but was looked after from Keningau and Nabawan.
politics
Sook belongs to the P.182 constituency ( Pensiangan ). In the Legislative Assembly of Sabah ( Dewan Undangan Negeri Sabah ) Sook is listed as constituency N.37.
economy
The town of Sook and the surrounding area are dominated by agriculture and forestry. Rice, yams , cocoa , coffee , fruits, palm oil and cash crops are planted .
