The Impact World Championship is the world heavyweight wrestling title of Impact Wrestling . Introduced on May 13, 2007 after TNA's rights to the NWA World Heavyweight Championship were revoked, the title is only given to male individual wrestlers. As is common in wrestling, the award is based on a previously determined storyline .
history
The NWA championship has been the highest championship in the league since TNA was founded in May 2002. However, since the title defenses in the NWA territories, i.e. outside of TNA shows, became increasingly rare over time, the National Wrestling Alliance decided not to extend the expiring contract with TNA in May 2007. The collaboration with the NWA ended on May 13, 2007, the day of the PPV Sacrifice , and on the same day Christian Cage , the then title holder, was stripped of the title by the NWA committee.
A day later, TNA presented the newly created TNA World Heavyweight Championship with Kurt Angle as the first title holder after his victory at Sacrifice, but the title was declared vacant on the same evening . Since then, this title has been the highest individual title in the league.
At the tapings for Impact on November 8, 2010, which will be broadcast on television for the first time on November 12, a new title belt was introduced by Hulk Hogan , matching the new champion of the group Immortal , Jeff Hardy .
On March 17, 2011, the World Heavyweight Champion Sting presented a new title belt. This was replaced on October 18, 2012 by Jeff Hardy with a modified version of the Immortal belt.
