Takanori Kōno ( Japanese 河野 孝 典 , Kōno Takanori ; born March 7, 1969 in Nozawa Onsen , Nagano Prefecture ) is a former Japanese Nordic combiner .
Career
Kōno made his international debut as part of the World Cup on March 9, 1990 in Örnsköldsvik . With 15th place, he immediately managed to win points. At his second World Cup in Oslo , he finished 13th. After the following two years without an international start, he was part of the squad for the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville . There he won the gold medal in the team competition together with Kenji Ogiwara and Reiichi Mikata . In the Gundersen singles, he finished 19th.
In the 1992/93 season Kōno started surprisingly with a second place in Vuokatti . He also achieved the first of his 12 podium places in his career. He was also third and second again in Courchevel and St. Moritz . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun in 1993 , he finished fifth in the singles before winning gold with the team in the team competition. At the end of the season he won his first and only World Cup in Oslo. He finished third in the season's overall standings.
The following 1993/94 season was the most successful season of his career. Although Kōno did not succeed, but with one exception only top 10 placements, including six podium places. In the overall ranking, this was enough to make it second. At the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer , he defended the 1992 title with his team. He was also successful in the individual for the first time and won the silver medal behind the Norwegian Fred Børre Lundberg .
In his last season 1994/95 Kōno started with fourth place in Steamboat Springs . In February 1995 he achieved the first and only podium of the season in Falun. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1995 in Thunder Bay , he was able to defend the world championship title in the team together with Masashi Abe , Tsugiharu Ogiwara and Kenji Ogiwara. Despite this success, Kōno still played a World Cup, which he finished in sixth.
After the 1994/95 season, Kōno ended his active career.
