Thomas Kinne (born February 26, 1961 in Niederbieber-Segendorf ) is a German translator , author , editor , editor , travel journalist, film expert, comic book collector and Americanist . He became known as a participant and winner of quiz and game shows on German and American television . In the fourth ARD season of asked - hunted , Kinne joined the show's hunter team as “Der Quizdoktor”.

Career

After high school at Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium Neuwied and studied military service Kinne at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz and at the San Francisco State University in San Francisco American , English studies , Hispanic studies , journalism and film . During his studies, he began to work as a translator and freelance editor for various television broadcasters and TV production companies, and at the same time appeared as a candidate on TV game shows. Kinne worked for the Seychelles Tourist Office for several years and then worked in tourism marketing. In the mid-1990s he went freelance as a translator and since then has translated nonfiction books in addition to his work for television, mostly from the fields of film and comics . In addition, he wrote or edited several travel guides and illustrated books and continues to translate texts from various industries for commercial purposes.

In addition to his job, Kinne is also privately involved in languages ​​and has one of the world's most extensive collections of volumes from the French comic series Astérix in over 120 languages ​​and dialects.

Kinne is married, has two daughters and has lived in Nauheim, Hesse , since 1996 .

Achievements and awards

Kinne received his doctorate magna cum laude in 1994 with a dissertation on the elements of Jewish tradition in Woody Allen's work , in which he made connections between current films and television series and a millennia-old cultural and literary tradition. Television and book productions, in which he was involved in the following years, were honored with numerous international prizes. The ZDF production Das Drama von Dresden 2006 was awarded an international Emmy in the “Best Documentary” category, and the documentary Göring : Eine Karriere 2007 won the Gold World Medal at the International TV Programming and Promotion Awards in New York and the volume 75 Years of DC Comics 2011 with the Will Eisner Award .

1990s

Kinne had his first television appearance on June 11, 1991 in episode 188 of Riskant! , the first German version of the US game show Jeopardy! on RTLplus . In the same year there was an appearance in three episodes of TicTacToe with Michael Förster , which RTL broadcast in March 1992. After the maximum number of three wins, Kinne was eliminated undefeated. As a jeopardy! Was reissued in 1994 by RTL in the original look and under the original title, Kinne was one of the three candidates in the premiere episode with Frank Elstner , won this and the following four episodes and thus became the first German Jeopardy! -Champion and at the same time the first German five-time champion. Since participation was limited to five programs, Kinne was also eliminated here undefeated and took part in the first “ChampionsCup” a year later. He won the quarter-finals here too, but then retired after several play-offs in the final round of the semi-finals against Karl Gruber from Austria with the same number of points . Since Kinne speaks fluent English , he was the first German to participate in the first international Jeopardy in 1996 ! Tournament in the USA, moderated by Alex Trebek . Here, too, Kinne narrowly failed in the final round of the semi-finals, this time against the British Mandi Hale, after the third candidate had not reached the final round: Both remaining players answered the final question correctly, but Hale had previously scored and placed more points. 2000s

After five years of abstinence from TV, Kinne returned to German television in 2001 with the show, The weakest flies , hosted by Sonja Zietlow . In the episode, which was broadcast on October 19, 2001 on RTL, he successively defeated his eight fellow candidates. Shortly afterwards he beat 99 opponents in episode 6 and 7 of the RTL quiz show One against 100 , which was moderated in its first German-language edition by Linda de Mol . He was the only remaining candidate in the audience and was then allowed to take a seat on the “hot seat”, but was unable to secure the winnings in episode 8.

2010s and later

After another break of several years, Kinne competed in 2015 in episode 4/27 of Asked - hunted , which was broadcast for the first time on June 24, 2015, with three colleagues against the hunter Sebastian Jacoby . In round 1, Kinne won the record sum of 6,000 euros with 12 correctly answered questions. In the final round, the team beat the hunter with a total of 16 correct answers (including 4 setbacks) and was able to collectively take home 37,500 euros. A year later, Kinne asked himself special questions about his adopted home in the hessen quiz of the hr television and was able to win - like his daughter Alisa the year before - in episode 11 of the 22nd season.
