Tyson Jost (born March 14, 1998 in St. Albert , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Colorado Avalanche in the National Hockey League since March 2017 and plays for them on the position of the center .
Career
Tyson Jost was born in St. Albert, however, left his home at the age of 13 years to the junior program Pursuit of Excellence in Kelowna in the province of British Columbia to participate. After two years he moved to the Okanagan Rockets , where he scored 44 goals and assists in 36 games in the 2013/14 season. Although the attacker was selected in seventh position by the Everett Silvertips in the 2013 Bantam Draft of the Western Hockey League (WHL) , he decided against a move to one of Canada's three highest junior leagues and instead played for the Penticton Vees in one level the WHL-based British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). After three appearances at the end of the 2013/14 season, Jost scored 45 points in 46 games in the 2014/15 season , won the BCHL championship with the Vees and was elected to the league's all- rookie team . In his second year in Penticton, the striker led the Vees as captain and achieved a point average of over 2.0 (104 in 48 games), so that he was awarded as an MVP and appointed to the league's First All-Star Team. In the subsequent NHL Entry Draft 2016 , Jost was selected in tenth position by the Colorado Avalanche .
For the time being, however, Jost enrolled at the University of North Dakota in autumn 2016 and from then on played for their Fighting Hawks in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC). As a freshman , he had a point average of over 1.0 (35 in 33 games) and was subsequently elected to the NCHC's all-rookie team . Immediately after the college season ended, Jost signed an entry-level contract with the Colorado Avalanche in March 2017 and made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) the next day .
International
On an international level, Jost made his debut at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2014 , where he finished fifth with Team Canada White . In the course of the next year, two appearances at the World Junior A Challenge followed , where he won the gold medal with the Canada West 2015 selection as before at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2015 . In 2016 he represented his home country at the U18 World Cup in 2016 , scored the most scorer points (15) and was subsequently named the best attacker of the tournament; however, the team lost in the game for third place. In addition, Jost took part in the 2017 U20 World Cup with the Canadian U20 national team at the turn of the year 2016/17 and won the silver medal there with the team.
Jost made his debut for the senior national team at the 2018 World Cup , where he finished fourth with the team. A year later he won the silver medal with the team.
