Colin Wilson (born October 20, 1989 in Greenwich , Connecticut ) is an American ice hockey player of Canadian origin who has been under contract with the Colorado Avalanche from the National Hockey League since July 2017 . Previously spent Center eight years with the Nashville Predators . His father Carey , a former Canadian international , was active for 13 seasons for the Calgary Flames , Hartford Whalers and New York Rangers in the NHL.
Career
Wilson played in Canada during his high school years. Towards the end of the 2005/06 season he moved to the USA Hockey National Team Development Program of the US Ice Hockey Federation , where he went through the various junior national teams. As a result, he took part in the U18 Junior World Championship in 2006 . There, the Americans defeated, among other things, Erik Johnson and Patrick Kane , who were later elected in the NHL Entry Drafts in 2006 and 2007 , in the final of Finland 3-1 and won the world title. The following year Wilson played again at the U18 Junior World Championship , where he won the silver medal this time, but was top scorer of the tournament together with his teammate James van Riemsdyk .
In the summer of 2007, Wilson then moved to Boston University . There he plays alongside his studies for the university team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association and scored 35 scorer points in 37 games. At the end of 2007 he was reappointed to the national squad for the U20 Junior World Championship in 2008 , which he finished as the tournament's top scorer. In the 2008 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected the following summer in the first round in seventh overall position by the Nashville Predators , who had previously swapped their draft rights with the New York Islanders to select Wilson.
After another year at Boston University, the attacker moved to the 2009/10 season in the organization of the Predators, which he spent in roughly equal parts in the NHL and with the Milwaukee Admirals , the farm team of the Predators from the American Hockey League . With the beginning of the 2010/11 season, Wilson established himself in Nashville's NHL squad. In 2017 he reached the Stanley Cup final with the team, but failed there because of the Pittsburgh Penguins . Despite his recent success, the Predators transferred him to the Colorado Avalanche on July 1, 2017 in exchange for a four-round vote in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft .
