Uwe Karl Beckmeyer (born March 26, 1949 in Bremerhaven ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 1987 to 1991 he was Senator for Economic Affairs and from 1991 to 1999 Senator for Foreign Trade of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen . From 2006 to 2010 he was state chairman of the SPD Bremen . From the end of 2013 he was Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy .

education and profession

After the high school in 1968 at Wirtschaftsgymnasium graduated Beckmeyer study for teaching at primary and secondary schools, which he with the first and after completing the Referendariat also to the second state examination ended. Until 1975 he worked as a teacher in Bremerhaven. He is married and has a son.

politics

Beckmeyer has been a member of the SPD since 1969 and was chairman of the SPD sub-district of Bremerhaven from 1972 to 1987. On March 25, 2006, he was elected regional chairman of the SPD in Bremen. In 2010 he handed over the chairmanship to Andreas Bovenschulte .

From 1975 to 1987 and from 1999 to 2002 Beckmeyer was a member of the Bremen citizenship . Here he was deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group from 1979 to 1987.

From 2002 to 2017 he was a member of the German Bundestag . From October 2004 he was the spokesman for the working group on traffic, building and housing, and since November 2005 on traffic, building and urban development for the SPD parliamentary group . From December 2005 until the reconstitution after the federal election in 2009, he was also a member of the parliamentary group's executive committee. Beckmeyer always entered the Bundestag as a directly elected member of the constituency of Bremen II - Bremerhaven . In the 2005 Bundestag election he received 54.4% of the first votes . Since 2009 he has been the pilot of the SPD coastal gang .

On October 15, 1987 Beckmeyer was appointed Senator for Economics, Technology and Foreign Trade to the Senate of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen led by Senate President Klaus Wedemeier (SPD) . After the general election in 1991, he became Senator for Ports, Shipping and Foreign Trade on December 11, 1991, and at the same time, as Senator for Federal Affairs, he was appointed federal representative . When Henning Scherf (SPD) took office as the new mayor and Senate President, Beckmeyer was elected Senator for Ports, Interregional Transport and Foreign Trade and Senator for Labor on July 4, 1995. After the general election in 1999, he left office on July 7, 1999.

In December 2013 Beckmeyer became Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Sigmar Gabriel (SPD) in the Merkel III cabinet and Maritime Coordinator of the Federal Government. He held these positions until April 2018.

In June 2016, Uwe Beckmeyer announced that he would not run again for the German Bundestag in the 2017 federal election.
