The Berlin-Liga (until 2008 Verbandsliga Berlin ) is the highest soccer league in the area of the Berlin Soccer Association (BFV) and one of the sixth highest divisions in the German league system . The relay champion rises directly to the Oberliga Nordost and receives the title of Berlin soccer champion .

history

Until the dissolution of the GDR and the associated amalgamation of East and West Berlin to form the state of Berlin , the upper league existed on the west side and the district league on the east side as the highest Berlin divisions. After German reunification , the East Berlin soccer clubs previously organized in the German Soccer Association (DFV) were integrated into the BFV, which had been responsible for West Berlin until then, on November 20, 1990. The goal was also formulated to establish a new single-track top division for all of Berlin.

Even before that, the East Berlin District League was abolished for the 1990/91 season and included as the second season in the already existing West Berlin State League, with both seasons being separated into West and East. The Oberliga Berlin , which is superordinate to the regional league , was also dissolved after this season and integrated into the north and middle of the newly created Oberliga Nordost for the 1991/92 season . Among them, the Landesliga Berlin was still in two seasons (but no longer separated into West and East). At the beginning of the 1992/93 season, the single-track Association League Berlin finally started playing. When it was introduced, the Association League was the fourth highest league behind the first and second Bundesliga and the Oberliga Nordost and before the - one class lower - Landesliga Berlin. After the reintroduction of the regional leagues as the third highest division in 1994, the association league slipped one class lower.

After the end of the 2007/08 season, there was another league structure reform in German league football. This included the introduction of a new single-track 3rd division , which made the regional leagues , which had been third-class up to then, fourth-class. All leagues within the Northeast German Football Association (NOFV) have also been downgraded by one class. Due to the reform, there was a changed qualification mode for promotion to the NOFV-Oberliga Nord during the season: In addition to the directly qualified Berlin champions, the second-placed player in the association league also got the chance to advance to the upper-league in two relegation games against the runner-up in the Sachsen-Anhalt association's league . The SV Lichtenberg 47 , however, did not get promoted to the league against the second team of 1. FC Magdeburg .

For the 2008/09 season, the Association League Berlin started for the first time under its new name Berlin League . For the 2017/2018 season, “11Teamsports” secured the league's naming rights and from this season it will be called 11Teamsports Berlin-Liga.
