The Fourteen Holy Helpers Church is a Roman Catholic church in the 14th  Grazer district Eggenberg . It is the institutional church of the hospital of the merciful brothers in Eggenberg.

history

The baroque building stands next to the Brothers of Mercy hospital on a foothill of the Plabutsch . According to a votive inscription, the church was built in 1680. The completion of the building commissioned by Johann Anton II Joseph von Eggenberg was probably around the year 1684. It received the patronage of the Fourteen Helpers , which is very rare in Styria . In 1950 the Church was donated to the Congregation of the Brothers of Mercy .

Architecture and design

A tower with an onion roof is placed on top of the medium-sized church building . Semicircular chapels and a choir with side extensions are attached to the building. The tower hall has a cross vault . The interior is a short three-bay nave with mirror vaults . The outer facade is adorned with sandstone figures and stucco-framed niches and ornamental gable figures that date from the construction period. The interior is provided with a Stuccolustro -Brüstung with an alliance family coats of arms Eggenberg - Sternberg provided. The choir niche dates from the second quarter of the 18th century. The secco paintings with depictions of the Holy Trinity and a pomegranate are by the artist Toni Hafner .

Interior decoration

Among the most important pieces of the interior include a painting of Mary Immaculate of Hans Adam Weissenkircher (1687), a neo - Tabernacle (1886), a late Gothic Pietà (1510 or 1520) and wood figures of the Apostles Peter and Paul (18th century). The side chapels are decorated with pictures of the Stations of the Cross by Toni Hafner. A miraculous image of the Virgin Mary by Sasso (around 1688) and a representation of St. Donatus can be found in the sacristy .

Parish ministry

The Roman Catholic Dean's Office in Graz-West is responsible for the hospital pastoral care . It also houses the Graz parish of the Romanian Greek Catholic Church , which belongs to the common ordinariate for the Byzantine believers in Austria .
