2012 United States presidential primary election results

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This page lists the results of the primaries of the Republican Party for the presidential election of 2012 in the United States to (Republican Party presidential primaries).

Primaries were also held in the Democratic Party . In individual states, John Wolfe was able to win over 41% of the votes. In West Virginia, one inmate even won 40% of the vote. Nevertheless, the nomination of President Barack Obama was considered certain. This occurred in many states without a challenger.

Delegates

The allocation of delegates was based on the results of the pre-election in the states . Due to the complicated pre-election guidelines, in addition to the proportion of votes of the primaries and caucuses (conventions), other factors determined the proportion of delegates committed to a candidate. These guidelines vary from state to state.

In addition, there were unrestricted delegates ( super delegates for Democrats or RNC MPs for Republicans), usually incumbents and party officials - the assignment was based on endorsements (non-binding statements of support). It is also possible to vote for uncommitted - which results in a lot of delegates who were obliged to be undecided.

In the case of the Democrats, obligated delegates were entitled to the election result after at least three candidates. Since some of these did not name their delegates before the election, these delegates were not awarded by the election officers, against which the candidates complained. The lawsuits were dismissed because the parties can determine the electoral rules themselves.
