from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Walter Baumgartner (born September 19, 1936 in Zurich ) is a Swiss actor, dramaturge, radio play director, director, author and dialect author.

Life

Walter Baumgartner, who grew up in the city of Zurich, attended the Zurich Cantonal Commercial School as an independent department of the Zurich Cantonal School and graduated with a diploma. He graduated from the drama school in Zurich and completed his training as an actor in Berlin. Then he spent a season at the Göttingen Young Theater. From 1961 to 1969 he worked as an assistant director at the Sender Freies Berlin and taught for ten semesters as a lecturer at the Max Reinhardt School in Berlin . In 1969/70 he worked at the Schauspielhaus Zurich .

After that, until his retirement in the late 1990s, Baumgartner drew as a director and dramaturge for the radio play DRS (now SRF). He has staged works by many Swiss authors such as Jürg Amann , Alfred Blatter, Rainer Bressler , Eva Brunner , Anne Cuneo , Walter Matthias Diggelmann , Fritz Gafner, Hans Peter Gansner , Beat Hirt, Rudolf Jakob Humm , Jürgmeier , Markus Kägi, Walther Kauer , Alberto Nessi , Klara Obermüller , Hansjörg Schertenleib , Jörg Schneider , Gerold Späth , Beat Sterchi , Hans Suter , Hans Peter Treichler, Werner Wiedenmeier , Peter Zeindler , Emil Zopfi and others. Over the course of four decades, Baumgartner realized around 120 radio plays. Again and again he took on important roles as an actor. The radio play director also produced more than a dozen of his own radio features .

Baumgartner was awarded the Bern Radio Prize in 1983 for his first documentary program, “Where is Derborence”, inspired by the novel Derborence by CF Ramuz . Since the early 1980s he has acted as a juror at important award ceremonies. Outside of his work for the radio, he realized author readings as full-length programs with texts by well-known writers. Since his retirement he has been writing short stories and fairy tales for children and adults. For the singer Brigitte Wullimann he wrote texts for folklore, jazz and chansons, which the composer Andreas Schaerer set to music.
