history
The county was named on April 11, 1823 and after General Anthony Wayne .
Two places in the county have National Historic Landmark status , the Delaware and Hudson Canal and the New York State Barge Canal . 35 buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 21, 2018).
