Werner Stocker (bobsleigh driver)

Werner Stocker (born August 14, 1961 ) is a former Swiss bobsleigh driver and Olympic champion .

The Basel economics student took third place at the Swiss championships in 1987 with Ekkehard Fasser's four-bobsleigh . Master Ralph Pichler and runner-up Hans Hiltebrand competed at the 1987 World Championship , while Fasser and his team started at the European Championship in Cervinia. Behind Wolfgang Hoppe from the GDR and Ralph Pichler, Fasser took third place together with Kurt Meier , Werner Stocker and Rolf Strittmatter .

The following year, Fasser and Hiltebrand competed with their teams at the Olympic Games in Calgary. While Hiltebrand only took ninth place, Fasser took the lead in the third run thanks to the fastest time of all participants and after the fourth run was still seven hundredths of a second ahead of Wolfgang Hoppe's bobsleigh. In the line-up of Fasser, Meier, Marcel Fässler and Stocker, the Swiss bob won gold.
