William Penn Gregory, Junior (* 14. December 1949 in Galveston , Texas , USA ) is a former American American Football- players. He played on the defensive line and was active in the National Football League (NFL) with the Dallas Cowboys and the Seattle Seahawks .

Player career

College career

Bill Gregory visited in La Marque the high school . After graduating from school, he moved to the University of Wisconsin-Madison and played there for the Wisconsin Badgers College Football on the position of a defensive tackle. He developed into a high performer and was selected for the Big Ten Conference . At times he acted as team captain for the Badgers .

Professional career

Bill Gregory was drawn 77th in the NFL Draft in 1971 by the Tom Landry- trained Cowboys in the third round . The Cowboys had developed into a top team under Landry, their defense around well-known players such as Jethro Pugh , Bob Lilly , George Andrie or Larry Cole went down in NFL history as Doomsday Defense . Gregory was mainly used as a substitute on the defensive line by defensive coordinator Ernie Stautner . In 1970 he was able to win his first championship title with his team.

In his rookie season, Gregory won eleven of 14 games with the Cowboys in the regular season and thus moved into the play-offs . After a 14: 3 win over the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game , they made it to Super Bowl VI . In this game the Cowboys managed a 24-3 win over the Miami Dolphins .

From the 1975 season , Gregory received increased deployment time as a starter in the position of a defensive tackle. The Cowboys won 10 of 14 games in the regular season this year. After a 37: 7 win in the NFC Championship Game over the Los Angeles Rams , the Texas team had to defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers , who were looked after by Chuck Noll , and lost in Super Bowl X by just 21:17.

In 1977 Bill Gregory won his second Super Bowl with the Dallas Cowboys. He moved with his team after twelve wins and two defeats in the regular season in the NFC Championship Game, where the Minnesota Vikings had no chance in their 23: 6 defeat. That game was followed by a 27:10 win over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XII .

Before the 1978 game round , Gregory moved to the Jack Patera- supervised Seattle Seahawks. He was used as a defensive end and was able to establish himself as a regular player in this position. He could not win a title with the Seahawks - after the 1980 season he ended his career.

After the career

After his career, Gregory became an account manager at IBM in Dallas . In 2007 he was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame by his college .
