history

Settlement in Windsor began in 1790. The area was part of the Kennebec Purchase from Governor Bradford's Plymouth Plantation in Massachusetts and was initially referred to as New Waterford Plantation . As an independent town, the area was organized on March 3, 1809 under the name Malta . The name was changed to Gerry in 1820 and Windsor in 1822 .

Portions of Whitefield were added in 1821. In 1907 this land takeover was abandoned and the area returned to Whitefield.
