Sixteenth Century

  • 1581Richard Mulcaster "the greatest sixteenth Century advocate of football" [3] gives the earliest evidence of organized team "footeball", player positions, referees and coaches. Mulcaster confirms that his was a game close to modern soccer by differentiating it from games involving other parts of the body, namely "the hand ball" and "the armeball"[4]
