ÍF Fuglafjørður , full name Ítróttarfelag Fuglafjarðar ("Sports Club of Fuglafjørður "), abbreviated ÍF , is a sports club based in Fuglafjørður on the island of Eysturoy , Faroe Islands , which is active in football and volleyball , among other things .

Soccer

history

After it was founded on March 25, 1946, the club celebrated its greatest success with the 1979 championship. In addition, ÍF was five times in the cup finals (1975, 1982, 1987, 2005 and 2011), but could never win. Since 2008, the club has played in the Betrideildin again and in 2010 was able to qualify for the European Cup for the first time with fourth place.

In 2017, the last placed was relegated to 1st Deild .

Women's soccer

As a founding member of the 1st Deild, the women's team from ÍF usually took one of the lower places at the beginning. Then in 1989 and 1990 two third places in a row before the only championship title to date could be achieved in 1991. The disillusionment followed in the next season with relegation to the second division. In 1993 they were promoted again, and the cup final was reached in this and the following year. This was lost in both years with 1: 2 and 2: 4 after extra time against B36 Tórshavn . In 1996 the team withdrew from the first division, and only in 2011 could they return to the first Deild with second place in the second division . In 2014, ÍF merged with Víkingur Gøta to form the new association ÍF / Víkingur .

volleyball

The volleyball department at ÍF Fuglafjørður is one of the most successful among men. In 1989 the first of a total of nine championships was achieved, and the club is the record cup winner with seven titles. So far, the women have won two championships, the first of which in 2003. In 2008, after two previous defeats in the final, the only victory was achieved with a 3-0 win against SÍ Sørvágur . The men won the championship in 2014/15 with a 3-1 and 3-0 win against Fleyr Tórshavn , the women finished last in the league.
