Île de Batz ( Breton Enez-Vaz ) is a Breton island in the north of the Finistère department in the French region of Brittany , across from Roscoff . It forms the municipality of the same name Île-de-Batz with 457 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the canton of Saint-Pol-de-Léon in the arrondissement of Morlaix .
Size and location
The island is 3.5 kilometers long and a maximum of one and a half kilometers wide, the total area is 305 hectares. In 1999 there were 575 inhabitants, which corresponds to a population density of 189 inhabitants per km². The only place on the island is Porz Kernog with a small church , next to it there are farms and holiday homes in loose buildings. Individual beaches, which can only be used at low tide, alternate with typical Breton rocky coasts. Île-de-Batz is the northernmost municipality in the Finistère department.
climate
If the Breton climate is already extremely mild due to the Gulf Stream as such, the microclimate on the island of Batz is again particularly mild, comparable to the British Channel Islands, and therefore particularly suitable for agriculture. The island has always been famous for its vegetable growing - the first fresh vegetables in spring often come from there. Sometimes you can harvest once more per year than on the mainland.
