The Baie-Comeau Drakkar ( Engl . Baie-Comeau Drakkar) are a professional Canadian Junior Hockey Team from Baie-Comeau , Quebec , which currently in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League play. The franchise plays its home games at the Center Henry-Leonard .

history

In 1997 the Drakkar were founded as a new LHJMQ team, one of the founders was the former NHL player Marius Fortier . In the debut season, the team already had two draft picks from the same year, Marc-André Bergeron and Bruno St. Jacques . The first top scorer, however, was Oleh Tymtschenko , whom the Drakkar won from the Huskies de Rouyn-Noranda during the season . In its third season, the team reached the play-offs for the Coupe du Président for the first time , but failed in the first round due to the Halifax Mooseheads . In 2001 they lost to the Titan d'Acadie-Bathurst in the Conference Finals .

The season with the highest points in their history played the Drakkar 2002/03 , when they finished the regular season with 108 points in first place in the league. In addition, three players, Joël Perrault , Patrick Thoresen and Pascal Pelletier , reached the 100-point mark. In the play-offs, however, they lost again in the semifinals after seven games against Halifax. After the departure of their top performers, the team slipped back into midfield of the league and could only win one play-off series in the following six seasons.

After the Drakkar had finished the 2011 regular season for the second time in a row in penultimate place in the league, they received the first right to vote in the midget draft of the same year through a lottery . With this they chose the center Nathan MacKinnon . Since a move to Baie-Comeau was unlikely for personal reasons, he was transferred to the Halifax Mooseheads within the league . The Drakkar received two players and three first-round voting rights from Halifax in return. In the following seasons, the Drakkar managed to return to the top of the league through the draft and barter deals. In the 2013/14 season , the team moved into the final for the Coupe du Président for the first time, where they were again subject to the Halifax Mooseheads. In the following season they were able to repeat this success, but this time failed because of the Foreurs de Val-d'Or . With 170 goals conceded in the regular season, the Drakkar also won the Robert LeBel Trophy for the first time in their history for the team with the lowest average.
