The Okres Nový Jičín ( German district Neu Titschein ) is a district in Moravskoslezský kraj in the Czech Republic . The Okresy are comparable in size to the districts in Germany, the district administrations were dissolved on December 31, 2002.
Since January 1, 2007, the town of Klimkovice and the municipalities of Olbramice , Vřesina and Zbyslavice belong to the Okres Ostrava-město .
The district is located in the southern part of the industrial area of Greater Ostrava and extends from the Kuhländchen to the Oder Mountains. With 882 km² it is one of the smaller districts with 53 municipalities, nine of which are cities. 65 percent of the area is used for agriculture. 151,680 people live in Okres Nový Jičín (as of January 1, 2019).
The region is rich in natural raw material deposits, especially for the construction industry, as well as a small black coal deposit. In the cities, industry is concentrated in the areas of automotive suppliers, mechanical engineering and commercial vehicle production.
