The British Red Cross Society is a British aid organization based in London and part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement .
The story goes back to the British National Society for Aid to the Sick and Wounded , founded in 1870 . In 1905 it was renamed to its current name. The entry in the Royal Charter took place in 1908.
The organization is active at home and abroad. Development aid and humanitarian aid are provided in Africa and Asia. There are 3,500 paid workers and 32,500 volunteers.
There is a museum and archive in London.
