Camiers ( Picard Camie ) is a French municipality with 10,865 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Pas-de-Calais in the region of Hauts-de-France . It is located in the arrondissement of Montreuil and in the canton of Étaples . The inhabitants are called Étaplois .

The small seaside resorts of Saint-Cécile-Plage and Saint-Gabriel-Plage also belong to the village .

geography

Camiers is located on the estuary of the Canche River in the English Channel on the Côte d'Opale ( Opal Coast ). Camiers is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Dannes in the north, Widehem in the northeast, Lefaux in the southeast and Étaples in the south.

The A16 autoroute runs along the eastern edge of the municipality .

During the First World War, several French army depots were set up here.
