Inxent ( Dutch Enessem ) is a French municipality with 162 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Pas-de-Calais in the region of Hauts-de-France (2015: Nord-Pas-de-Calais ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Montreuil and to the municipality association Deux Baies en Montreuillois, founded in 2016 .

Location in canton and arrondissement

Inxent is located in the hinterland of the Côte d'Opale of the English Channel in the west of the Artois landscape , about twelve kilometers east of the port city of Étaples . The 3.78 km² municipal area stretches on both sides of the course river , flanked by over 50 meters high wooded slopes ( Bois Selingue, Bois d'Inxent, Les Hallois ). Inxent is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Beussent in the north, Montcavrel in the east, Recques-sur-Course in the south, Maresville in the southwest and Bernieulles in the northwest.

The highway from Montreuil to Boulogne-sur-Mer runs immediately west of the municipality of Inxent.

Toponymy

The name of the community developed from Hainessendae (1042) via Enessem (1224), Ynesent (1257) and Inquessent (1553-1800) to the current name Inxent (from 1801).

Economy and Infrastructure

There are three farms in the community (grain cultivation, cattle breeding).

Immediately west of Inxent, the D 901 trunk road runs from Boulogne-sur-Mer to Montreuil . Ten kilometers southwest of Inxent there is a connection to the A 16 autoroute near Étaples .
