Ché Zach Everton Fred Adams (born July 13, 1996 in Leicester ) is an English football player who has been under contract with Southampton FC in the Premier League since the 2019/20 season . He can be used on the offensive as a center forward as well as on the wing .

Club career

Beginnings in amateur football

Born in Leicester , Adams began playing football with the Highfield Rangers, a local amateur club. At the age of seven, he moved to the Coventry City Youth Academy , where he was released in 2010 at 14. He then played for St Andrews FC in Leicester before joining the youth team in Oadby Towns in 2012. After a short time he was promoted to the men's team there. In the 2012/13 season, the 16-year-old Adams played 33 games in the United Counties League, a division of England's ninth league, in which he scored five goals. In 2013 he moved on to the youth division of FC Ilkeston in the seventh grade Northern Premier League . In the first team Ilkeston he made his debut on October 13, 2013 against Stocksbridge Park Steels . On April 5, he scored his first goal in a game against Ashton United . After strong performances early in the 2014/15 season, Adams signed a one-year contract with Ilkeston. In the following games, Adams proved that he was too strong for England's provincial football and after furious performances in Ilkeston's jersey, 45 scouts were sitting in the stands of the New Manor Ground to watch Adams play at the end of October 2014. At that time he had nine goals and eleven assists.

Sheffield United

On November 14, 2014, Ché Adams signed a two-year contract with Sheffield United in the third-tier Football League One . He also had offers from Premier League clubs, but ultimately decided on the blades . The parties have agreed not to disclose the transfer fee. He made his debut for Sheffield on December 16, 2014 in the League Cup quarter-finals against Southampton FC , where he was substituted on at half-time. The game was sensationally won 1-0 and Sheffield advanced to the semi-finals. Just four days later, Adams made his league debut against FC Walsall , in which he was allowed to start. The semi-final first leg of the League Cup against Tottenham Hotspur was lost 0-1 away. In the second leg at home in Bramall Lane , Adams equalized 1-1 just three minutes after coming on as a substitute in the 74th minute. Only two minutes later he made it 2-1 and was able to turn the game around. Christian Eriksen scored in the closing stages to 2-2 and Sheffield was eliminated from the cup. In the course of the 2014/15 season Adams came to 13 competitive appearances for Sheffield.

In the following 2015/16 season he scored his first league goal for Sheffield United when he scored both goals in a 2-0 home win against Chesterfield FC on August 15, 2015 . Ten days later, he signed a new three-year contract with the Blades . He was also able to tie a brace against AFC Rochdale and Fleetwood Town . He rose during the season to the undisputed regular player in the striker. He finished the season with twelve goals and five assists in 41 appearances and was named Sheffield's Young Player of the Year by the Sheffield Star newspaper .

Birmingham City

Adams (in the red jersey) in 2016

Despite immense transfer speculation from the media, Adams was in Sheffield's starting line-up in the first league game of the 2016/17 season . After the game, however, Adams' change to second division club Birmingham City was announced. The transfer fee for the striker was an estimated two million pounds. Adams made his debut for coach Gary Rowett's team on August 16, 2016, when he came on as a substitute for the second-half game against Wigan Athletic . He made his first appearance in the starting XI in the next game against Wolverhampton Wanderers . In the 1: 3 home defeat, Adams achieved the interim 1-0 lead. Adams established himself as a regular in the Birmingham team in his first 2016/17 season at Birmingham. Even a change of coach during the season did not change his role. He scored seven goals in 40 league games and prepared six more. At the end of the season he was named Birmingham's Young Player of the Season .

Adams was hunted by various Premier League and Championship clubs in the summer of 2017 . Among other things, a three million pound offer from Derby County , Gary Rowett's new team and a five million offer from Fulham FC were rejected. On the day of the deadline, Fulham doubled the offer to ten million pounds, but flashed again. In response to the summer offers, Birmingham extended Adams' contract for five years in September. Adams started the 2017/18 season with a 5-1 Cup win over Crawley Town with the first hat trick of his professional career. However, he injured his Achilles tendon in the next game and a month later he injured his other foot on the Achilles tendon. He ended the season with nine goals and two assists in 33 competitive games. With Birmingham he narrowly escaped relegation to League One with 20th place.

In the following season 2018/19 he recorded a significant leap in performance. He finally switched to the position of center forward and now scored significantly more goals than in previous seasons. in the 3-3 home draw against Hull City on November 10, 2018, he scored all three goals for his team and marked his first three-pack in a league competition. He scored one goal in all four league games in January 2019. In his 100th league game for Birmingham on February 2 against Nottingham Forest , he continued this streak and scored once in a 2-0 home win. In the 4: 3 away win against Queens Park Rangers , he was able to tie another hat trick. His achievements in February were awarded the Player of the Month award. At the end of the season he was the seventh best scorer in the league with 22 goals and five assists.

Southampton FC

After three years in the shirt of the second division side, Ché Adams ventured into the Premier League for the 2019/20 season , where he signed a five-year contract with Southampton FC . As a transfer for the variable offensive player, the club from the south of England transferred a sum of 16.7 million euros. On August 10, 2019 (1st matchday) he made his debut in the 3-0 away defeat against Burnley FC in the Saints jersey .

National team

Because of his Antiguan father, Ché Adams could also play for the Antigua and Barbudas national team . In October 2014 he was invited to take part in the qualification for the Caribbean Cup 2014 with the national team of the Caribbean island state , but declined the offer. In September 2015 he was drafted into England's U-20 national team . He made his debut on September 5 against the Czech Republic when he came on for Tyler Walker in the second half .
