Beginning

From FC Alemannia Munich, Lell joined the youth department of FC Bayern Munich in 1993 at the age of eight , where he went through all other youth teams. 2001/02 the right full-back was part of the amateur team and completed ten games in the Regionalliga Süd in his first season in the senior division . His debut ended on November 18, 2001 with the 0-2 home defeat against Eintracht Trier .

After two more seasons in which he continued to hold his ground in the amateur team and made 51 appearances, he completed his first four short appearances in the professional team of FC Bayern in the 2003/04 season . His Bundesliga debut took place on October 4, 2003 in a 4-1 home win against Hertha BSC when he was substituted in for Michael Ballack in the 84th minute .

On loan for a fee of 25,400 euros, he then moved to the 2nd Bundesliga for 1. FC Köln for two years before the start of the 2004/05 season , in which he had a disappointing season. Lell only made 16 appearances (with seven substitutions) that season. He scored a goal in the 8-1 win against Wacker Burghausen. In addition, he played eight games for the amateur team in the Regionalliga Nord and two in the DFB-Pokal competition. After Cologne's return to the Bundesliga for the 2005/06 season , Lell received significantly more missions - especially in the second half of the season, in which he was part of the starting eleven.

FC Bayern Munich

For the 2006/07 season Lell returned to Bayern Munich and was featured twelve times in the professional squad and eight times in the regional league team. In the following season, Lell earned a regular place at Bayern due to the injury-related loss of Willy Sagnol and the weakness of other teammates. In his 29 appearances, he also scored his first Bundesliga goal, which he scored on April 6, 2008 to make it 3-1 in the home game against VfL Bochum . He also played three times in the League Cup , five times in the DFB Cup - where he scored 5-4 on penalties at regional league club SV Wacker Burghausen - and eleven times in the UEFA Cup , in which he beat Aris Saloniki 6-0 scored a goal.

2008/09 Lell played 20 times in the league game, twice in the national and six times in the international cup competition.

According to press reports, English first division side Stoke City made an offer on September 1, 2009, shortly before the transfer market closed, to sign Lell. Lell is said to have been hostile to the change and ultimately prevented it because it was unavailable until the end of the period. Lell himself later denied this, stating that the offer had not been made and that he would have liked to move to the Premier League.

In the first half of the 2009/10 season , the new head coach of Bayern, Louis van Gaal , had no use for him, so Lell only played one game for the second team in the third division . The game on August 9, 2009 at FC Carl Zeiss Jena ended with a 6-0 defeat and for Lell in the 38th minute - he received the red card .

Hertha BSC

For the 2010/11 season Lell moved to Bundesliga relegated Hertha BSC . His contract initially ran for a year until the end of the season; with the immediate resurgence of the Berliners, this was extended by two more years to 2013. Lell made his debut for the Berliners on August 14, 2010 in the first main round of the DFB Cup competition in a 2-0 away win against SC Pfullendorf . He was a regular player for the Berlin team. In January 2012, Lell extended his contract for another three years until July 2016. However, since the coach Jos Luhukay, who was obliged for the following season, no longer planned with Lell, he moved to Spain. After the incidents during the relegation second leg at Fortuna Düsseldorf on May 12, 2012, Lell was banned for five games by the DFB Sports Court for insulting referee Wolfgang Stark after the end of the game.

Levante UD

For the 2012/13 season Lell moved to the Spanish first division club UD Levante on a free transfer . He made his league debut on August 27, 2012 (2nd matchday) in the 2-0 defeat in the away game against Real Valladolid ; he scored his first league goal on September 2, 2012 in a 3-2 home win against Espanyol Barcelona with the goal to make it 2-2 in the 56th minute. The association agreed in January 2014 with Lell to terminate the contract immediately.

TSV Weyarn

In the following years Lell had some higher-class offers, but after the death of his sister for a long time and ultimately completely on a return to professional football and remained without a club. After contacting the club's sponsor, Lell rejoined TSV Weyarn in the Bavarian Zugspitze 2 district in the 2015/16 season , where he played just for fun. He made his debut on October 3, 2015 (10th matchday) in a 1-1 draw in the away game against SG Miesbach / ASV Miesbach , and scored his first goal on October 11, 2015 in a 3-1 win at home against the SF Egling. After four games, Lell's involvement with TSV Weyarn ended in spring 2016.

On November 29, 2003 Lell made his debut in the U20 national team by participating in the U20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates . After three appearances in the respective group games, Germany was eliminated from the tournament. In the 2-1 victory over Italy on February 18, 2004, he wore the U20 jersey for the last time. Lell played for the U21 national team for the first time on August 17, 2004 : In Celle, the Lithuanian U21s were defeated 2-0. In the 5-3 victory over Serbia and Montenegro on September 7, 2004 in Dessau, he played in the national jersey for the last time.
