Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (original title Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs ) is an American 3D - computer animated film from Sony Pictures Animation and Columbia Pictures from the year 2009 , were the German and Swiss premieres on January 28 of 2010. The film opened in the United States on September 18, 2009 and immediately reached number 1 on the cinema charts.

action

The film tells about Flint Lockwood, a passionate tinkerer with good ideas that unfortunately always backfired. These include aggressive rat birds, a device for translating monkey thoughts into human language and spray-on shoes that you can no longer take off. Although his father is no longer on his side, he doesn't want to give up, because he is firmly convinced that one day he will develop something that will make people happy. His latest idea: to turn water into food. And after a little tinkering, he really managed to build a machine that converts water into food, the so-called FLDSMDFR (spoken: Flitzem-deför; English Flint Lockwood Diatonic Super Mutating Dynamic Food Replicator , German for example: Flint Lockwoods Diatonischer Super- Mutating Dynamic Food Replicator ). But unfortunately this machine also makes itself independent, destroys the town hall square and shoots into the clouds.

He meets Sam Sparks, a young television reporter who hasn't had much luck at her job lately either. They start a conversation and while they are talking like that, they suddenly notice that a huge rain cloud is pulling towards them. But instead of water, it suddenly rains hamburgers. Flint immediately understands: This is his machine, which is stuck in a rain cloud. He runs home immediately and builds a device that can be used to tell the machine what to produce. From now on the machine will produce the food to order. Always at his side is Sam Sparks, who reports diligently about it.

But people are demanding more and more food and the machine is spiraling out of control, producing spaghetti tornadoes, giant meatballs, and the like. Flint decides to fly into the cloud with Sam and his monkey and destroy the machine.

After walking a long way through the cloud and overcoming strange enemies, like live roast chickens, they reach the machine and spray it with their spray shoes. Now the machine can no longer produce and explodes, just in time before the city is buried under an avalanche of food.

Flint is hailed as a hero and his inventions are finally respected.

criticism

“With their first 3D production, 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs', Sony finally achieved a box-office hit. [...] 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs' turns a single story idea into a surprising amount and offers fast-paced entertainment at the highest level of animation. However , the quickly digestible action snack does not reach the depth of the over-competition Pixar . "
