DIE - offenses circumstantial investigations
DIE series ( delicts - circumstantial evidence - investigations ) was a series of books in paperback format for detective novels for over 30 years . The series was published in the GDR by the Das Neue Berlin publishing house , which was taken over by the Eulenspiegel publishing group after the fall of the Berlin Wall . By the time of the fall of the Wall, there were around 130 titles. It was about new publications , re-publications and translations by contemporary writers from the GDR as well as from the socialist, Eastern European countries and Western countries.
more details
In their work, the GDR authors with their crime stories always stood in the field of tension between ideological educational mandate and the danger of censorship . Not murder and manslaughter, not victims and perpetrators, but abuse of power and private failure are at the center of the cases, whose investigators act on behalf of the state and lead the perpetrators back on the right moral path. The sophistication that the authors displayed is sometimes unparalleled today. Even after 1990, the DIE series remained the most important home for the authors in what was then the eastern federal states.
The series was published from 1970 to 2001 in the same format of 10.7 × 17.7 cm. The volumes cost between 2.00 and 3.00 marks , later 6.80 to 9.80 DM or x euros. The length was between about 150 and about 400 pages. The envelope showed the author and the work on the left in the separated upper area, on the right the title of the crime - clues - investigations series , the logo of the three framed letters and the row below . After the fall of the Wall, the cover was changed several times; the logo was initially backed up with the colors red, green and blue; about 1993 the title of the series changed to THE crime novels , yellow-colored and the issues were numbered. From 1996 on the modern and colorfully designed title was again THE criminal evidence investigations . In 1998 the company returned to a classic layout with a yellow DIE on a black and white cover image, which has a higher recognition value.
A selection of crime novels by GDR authors in the collector's edition DIE Kriminalromane published by Weltbild Verlag contains new editions of works published in the DIE series. The appearance was based on the original series, on the title of the hard cover the logo was deposited with the colors red, green, blue.
