history
Rychnov was first mentioned in a document in 1309 in the course of a claim for compensation from the Teplá Monastery to Albert von Notthracht because of the occupation of the village. In the 15th century Reichenau belonged to the Elbogen rule . The settlement along the Reichenau stream ( Rychnovský potok ) consisted of two villages, Unter Reichenau and Ober Reichenau. When Wolf von Schlick had acquired the place in 1533, he added it to his rule of Falkenau .
After lignite deposits were found in the vicinity of the village in the first half of the 18th century, Unter Reichenau turned into a mining site. In 1834 one of the first steam-powered water arts in Bohemia was set up in Unter Reichenau . The mining entrepreneur Johann David Starck had a factory for soot, paints and naphthalene built in Unter Reichenau. His son Johann Anton Starck made for further development of the coal deposits the sough of St. Anthony propel. At three kilometers, the longest tunnel in the Falkenau coalfield drained the Těšovice pits into the Eger .
After the abolition of patrimonial , Unter Reichenau and the district of Ober Reichenau formed a community in the Falkenau district from 1850 . In the 19th century a glassworks opened in Unter Reichenau, for which the local coal formed the fuel and which employed 170 people. In 1866 the first steam hoist was installed. The pits were later connected to the railway. After Johann Anton Starck died in 1883, all Starck companies were amalgamated in 1885 to form Montan- und Industrialwerke AG, before JD Starck , whose seat was Unter Reichenau. At the beginning of the 20th century, the company was bought by the Prague Petscheks . In Unter Reichenau, the Petscheks established their general management of the Falkenauer Werke. During this time, the Antonín mine was opened up, and the Nová Anežka followed a little later. In 1902 a large thermal power plant was built. A wooden briquette factory was built on the Nová Anežka mine in 1922, and a more modern one was built in 1930.
In 1930 the community had 3800 inhabitants, in 1939 there were 3719. After the Munich Agreement , the community of Unter Reichenau was incorporated into the German Empire and until 1945 belonged to the district of Falkenau an der Eger . The resettlement of the Czechs began in 1938. After the end of the Second World War, the place came back to Czechoslovakia; the expulsion of the Germans began.
In 1965 the Antonín mine was closed.
In 1980 Dolní Rychnov was incorporated into Sokolov . The community has existed again since January 1st, 1991. Between 2002 and 2005 the project of a large golf course was realized in the course of the recultivation of a mining dump. It was laid out roughly where the village of Horní Rychnov had stood before mining began.
