Numbers, data, facts
Population of the member communities of the administrative community Nordendorf (as of December 31, 2007): Allmannshofen : 864, Ehingen : 1005, Ellgau : 1036, Kühlenthal : 838, Nordendorf: 2251, Westendorf : 1493; total: 7487.
The administrative association is based in Nordendorf. The six member communities erected their own administrative building there in 1980. All member communities came to the Augsburg district in the course of the district reform in 1972; previously Allmannshofen, Ehingen, Kühlenthal, Westendorf belonged to what was then the district of Wertingen , Ellgau and Nordendorf to the former district of Donauwörth . The Donau-Ries district joins in the north and the Dillingen / Donau district in the west.
In addition to the common administration, the municipalities have numerous other interdependencies (school associations, water supply, sewage disposal - in some cases - kindergartens).
The most important traffic arteries are the four-lane federal highway 2 and the Donauwörth-Augsburg railway line, each of which runs in a north-south direction.
history
The name Nordendorf is of Franconian origin; The uncovering of a row grave field with 433 graves on the occasion of the construction of the Augsburg-Donauwörth railway line in 1844 gave evidence of an Alemannic forerunner settlement from around the middle of the 6th century. This made the site one of the most important discovery sites of the early Middle Ages in the Swabian-Bavarian region . The most important archaeological finds are the bow brooches from Nordendorf , two garment clips with runic inscriptions engraved on the back .
The current name is mentioned for the first time in 1213. The landlords were initially the lords of Donnsberg, truchess of the Augsburg bishops, who had their castle west of Nordendorf on the Donnsberg. Around 1268 the Wittelsbachers destroyed Donnsberg Castle and Nordendorf came into their possession. In 1560 a new castle was built in the middle of the village , which burned down in 1862. In 1580 a branch of the Fugger family had acquired the Nordendorf property. This line lived here until 1878.
After the Second World War, Nordendorf developed from an agricultural village into an attractive residential community with an interesting surrounding area between Schmutter and Lech and the local recreation area “Augsburg western forests”.
The continuous increase in the number of inhabitants is ensured by the designation of building areas at affordable prices. Agriculture today is concentrated in the district of Blankenburg .
As a small center, Nordendorf offers an excellent infrastructure. The needs of daily life such as shopping opportunities, provision of (dental) medical services, partial secondary school and kindergarten, with banks and craft businesses are optimally met. The train connections to Augsburg, Meitingen or Donauwörth every 30 minutes make it easy to visit secondary schools and to get to work. The four-lane expansion of the B 2 between Augsburg and Donauwörth and the local bypass road created excellent opportunities for companies to settle.
The local clubs offer a wide range of sporting and cultural activities.
Population development
Between 1988 and 2018 the municipality grew from 1,977 to 2,457 by 480 inhabitants or 24.3%.
