On October 28, 2013, Eins gegen Eins was extended by a fifth season, which was scheduled to air in 2014. In August 2014 it was announced that it would not be broadcast in 2014.

concept

In one against one, two people who each had fundamentally different opinions should start a speech duel against each other. At the beginning, a topic was set on which the audience should vote, on which there is a pro and a contra opinion, which clearly differ from each other. In the second half of the program, the title "One against One" was said goodbye and each party was given a further supporter of the opinion who should support the respective supporter or opponent. The studio was very reminiscent of a show, as it was equipped with many light effects. The talk was moderated by Claus Strunz. Until the start of the next broadcast, the question could also be voted on Facebook .

Production and broadcast

The show was produced by Focus TV and broadcast from seasons 1 to 3 on Mondays at 11.30 p.m. In the 1st and 3rd season the program was broadcast after the Spiegel TV report and in the 2nd season after the Focus TV report. In addition, the new season got a new slot, on Tuesdays, according to the magazine Akt 8:13 around 11:25 p.m. One day before the season finale of the fourth season, One on One was extended by another season.

reception

criticism

“You have to be grateful that Helmut Markwort canceled. Because with him "One against One" would hardly have been so entertaining. The premiere of the new Sat.1 political talk with Claus Strunz on late Monday evening was a surprise - and it was a positive experience […] a lively discussion between Guido Westerwelle and the “Handelsblatt” editor-in-chief Gabor Steingart. Host Claus Strunz stayed discreetly in the background, apart from a few stubborn, perhaps somewhat exaggerated, demand. So everything is fine? Unfortunately not. Because the premiere of “Eins gegen Eins” was unnecessarily hailed by the editors with an unfortunate choice of topic. The guests should get to the point, but the question asked in the first edition did not [...] otherwise it would be as inconsistent as the fact that “one against one” became “two against two” in the end ”

- Thomas Lückerath for DWDL.de

“… It may be a great idea that a political program should be shown on private television […] but apparently Sat.1 thought that the program would only be seen by idiots […] how did Claus Strunz say? 'This is a yes-no show.' So then: no "

- Stefan Kuzmany for Spiegel Online

“... you can safely do without what was held at 'Eins gegen Eins'. [...] his activity [by Claus Strunz] [...] has little to do with moderation, if you don't want him harm, you can say: He let things go "

- Matthias Kalle for Tagesspiegel.de

“… Such a comparison shows how idle the debate is about whether there are too many political talk shows on German television. Each has its own character and audience, some are in need of improvement, some issues go completely wrong. All together, however, are part of television journalism and contribute to the formation of opinion - probably not in circles of the information elite, but, and this is much more important, at best for those who have not picked up a newspaper for a long time. "

- Harald Keller for FR-Online.de

"... in this respect it is clear that for" Eins gegen Eins "it is particularly important to invite the right guests: These should not necessarily always be politicians who are less suitable for this innovative talk format on private television, but rather prominent personalities, which stand for clear arguments and opinions - i.e. the often-quoted voices of the normal people. Apart from that, the studio design and the presentation of the show looked very good. Moderator Strunz sometimes held back too much from the discussion and sometimes derailed it. Nevertheless, as known from N24, he mastered his task largely confidently and seriously. The conclusion: "Eins gegen Eins" has some initial difficulties with the selection and number of guests, but the basic concept, main themes and general presentation are right and give hope for further promising programs. "

- Jan Schlüter for Oddsmeter.de

“… The approach of“ one against one ”with Claus Strunz may […] be worthy of all honor, but success is not to be expected. Incidentally, this not only has something to do with the slot in the very late evening, but also with the choice of topics. "Atom, Libya - once Hü, once Hott: Does voting still make sense?" That was the cumbersome title of the first program - a topic on which even premiere guest Guido Westerwelle managed to look good in the end [...] So it could have been done better in the second issue: The day after the exciting state elections with the possibly first Prime Minister of the Greens and the resignations of Mappus and Brüderle. You would have - if you hadn't invited Thilo Sarrazin of all people. On the subject of “Muslims in Germany - Should be punished who does not integrate?”. A topic that would have been interesting half a year ago and might have been well suited to warming up again during the summer break. But please not the day after this historic election. "

- Alexander Krei from DWDL.de
