Towers, inn and hiker's home

Heussner House with Borgmann Tower

Borgmann Tower

From 1894 to 1906 there was an 18 m high wooden observation tower on the Eisenberg . The current structure is the 26 m (according to other sources 24 m) high Borgmann tower, a brick observation tower built in 1913 by the Knüllgebirgsverein . It is named after the forester Hugo Borgmann (1841–1906), the founder of the Knüllgebirgsverein. In the tower a staircase with a total of 113 steps leads over an intermediate level to the two viewing levels at 19.6 m and 22 m high, each with four 3-part glass windows. From the upper viewing platform , on the windows of which there are orientation boards, the view falls particularly over the wooded mountains and valleys of the Knüll. At a greater distance you can see, among other things - starting clockwise in the north: Hoher Habichtswald , Reinhardswald , Kaufunger Wald , Hoher Meißner , Thuringian Forest , Rhön , Vogelsberg , Taunus , Westerwald , Rothaargebirge and Kellerwald .

Different antennas are attached to the head and roof of the tower.

Affiliated to the Borgmannturm are a mountain inn with a hotel and the Heussner-Haus hiking home of the Knüllgebirgsverein.
