Career
society
Ferro moved to the youth academy of the traditional Benfica club in Lisbon in 2011 . Since January 2016 he was in the reserve team and thus played in the second Portuguese division . On January 30, he made his debut in a 2-1 away win against UD Oliveirense for Benfica B. In the 2016/17 season , he made it into the starting lineup. On March 19, 2017 (33rd matchday), he scored his first goal in professional football in the 1: 2 away defeat against FC Penafiel . During this season he was used in 30 games and scored three goals. Towards the end of the 2017/18 season he took over the captain's armband and was on the starting line-up in 33 league games in each. He retained this in the following season 2018/19 .
After two and a half years in the B team, coach Bruno Lage pulled him up to the first team together with three other players in February 2019. On February 6, he made his debut in the semi-final first leg of the Taça de Portugal in a 2-1 home win against Sporting Lisbon for Benfica. He made his league debut four days later in the historic 10-0 home win against Nacional Funchal , in which he also scored a goal. The central defender was also able to score a goal in the 3-0 away win against Desportivo Aves a week later , but had to go into the dressing room after 64 minutes of the game after receiving the red card. By the end of the 2018/19 season he had established himself as a regular at Rúben Dias' side and had played in 13 league games. Of these he won 12 and one ended in a draw. This run enabled the team to win the Portuguese championship.
National team
Ferro went through all of his home country's youth selections. From October 2013 he was for the first time for the Portuguese U-17 national team and was used in 14 games by May 2014. With this he also took part in the U-17 European Championship in 2014 and reached the semi-finals with Portugal. His achievements earned him a nomination for the team of the tournament . For the U18 he played seven games and scored one goal. Since September 2015 he has been in the U-19 national team for one year and made 13 games during that time. At the U-19 European Championship in Germany in 2016 , he played all four games in Portugal for the entire duration of the game and reached the semi-finals of the tournament with his nation.
At the U-20 World Cup in 2017 , he was included in two group matches. On September 5, 2017, he made his U21 debut in a 2-0 home win in qualifying for the 2019 European Under-21 Championship against Wales . He then played six more qualifying games for Portugal, but was ultimately not nominated for the squad of the Portuguese selection at the finals in Italy and San Marino .
