Franklin County is a county in the state of Pennsylvania in the United States . At the 2010 census , the county had 149,618 residents and a population density of 74.8 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Chambersburg .

history

Franklin County was formed from Cumberland County on September 9, 1784 and named after Benjamin Franklin .

In Greencastle the school massacre occurred in 1764 during the Pontiac uprising .

63 buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of July 23, 2018).
