Gary Holt (musician)
Gary Wayne Holt (born May 4, 1964 in Richmond , California ) is an American guitarist and record producer . He is lead guitarist and main songwriter for the band Exodus and was also an official member of the band Slayer from 2014 to 2019, replacing Jeff Hanneman, who died in 2013 .
biography
Gary Holt worked as a roadie for the band Exodus in the early 1980s . After guitarist Tim Agnello left the band in 1981, Holt learned to play guitar from Kirk Hammett and became a member of the band six months later. He became the main songwriter and head of the band. Together with Rick Hunolt, Holt formed the so-called "H-Team" (H for H unolt and H olt). Gary Holt is also the only Exodus member to be heard on every album.
After the temporary breakup of Exodus in 1992, Holt was active in the band Wardance, but they only released a demo . In the late 1990s, Gary Holt applied as a guitarist with the band Machine Head , but was not accepted into the band.
Holt uses Schecter Guitar Research guitars and has a signature model of the brand, previously using Ibanez , BC Rich, and Jackson Guitars . At the end of 2014 he received three signature models from ESP in the form of an LTD Eclipse with its typical red and black paintwork. In October 2008 he published the guitar instructional video A Lesson in Guitar Violence . He was also the producer on Warbringer's second album, Waking into Nightmares .
12 February 2011 it was announced that Holt as a replacement for the now deceased Jeff Hanneman during Slayer will enter. He joined the band for Slayer's Australian Soundwave Festival Tour, which began on February 26th. Also at the concerts of the “Big Four” with Anthrax , Megadeth and Metallica in July 2011 as well as on other tours, Holt was still a temporary worker with Slayer.
From 2014 until its dissolution in 2019, Holt was a full member of Slayer and participated in the recording of the album Repentless , which was released on September 11, 2015. The first song, When the Stillness Comes , to be released with Holt's solos , was released on April 17, 2015 via Nuclear Blast on YouTube .

Holt's main influences as a guitarist are Ritchie Blackmore , Michael Schenker , Angus Young , Tony Iommi , Uli Jon Roth , Matthias Jabs and Ted Nugent . His favorite bands are Venom , Motörhead , Black Sabbath , early Iron Maiden and Judas Priest .
Personal
Gary Holt is in a relationship with Lisa Perticone and has two children together. Perticone also has a teenage daughter. The couple currently resides in Pinole, California.
In addition to music, Holt likes international and period films . He's also an avid viewer of news channels, commensurate with his interest in American politics . According to Holt, the song War is my Shepherd from the album Tempo of the Damned is a treatise on America's “pro-god” and “pro-war” attitudes and his opinion that the two attitudes are incompatible.
Holt supported Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election, saying:
“I used to have a lot of respect for McCain, but he realized after the dirty defeat that he suffered at the hands of George W. Bush in the South Carolina primary in the (2000) election that he can only get elected if he plays the Karl Rove tactic bs He's doing it. It's just one debunked lie after the other.
