history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1291 as "Göstendorf". The defining word of the place name is the personal name Gosto. A person of this name can be assumed to be the founder of the place. In 1352 the Heilsbronn Monastery received goods from Ludwig von Eyb as gifts.

In the Salbuch of the Nuremberg nursing office Lichtenau from 1515, 9 subject families are specified for Gotzendorf with mill, all of whom had the city bailiff of Eschenbach of the Teutonic Order as landlords .

In the 16-point report of the Heilsbronnian Vogtamt Merkendorf from the year 1616, Gotzendorf was given 1 estate, which was subordinate to the Merkendorf administrator's office. The other landlords are not listed.

In the official description of the Lichtenau Nursing Office from 1748, the place belonged to the Immeldorf main team. There were 12 subject families in Gotzendorf with Gotzen and Erlen mills, all of whom were foreigners.

Towards the end of the 18th century there were 14 properties and a community shepherd's house in Gotzendorf with the Gotzen and Erlenmühle. The high court was exercised by the Lichtenau nursing office, and village and community rulership was held by the Eschenbach municipal bailiff. The landlords were the Principality of Ansbach ( Merkendorf administration office : 1 Dreiviertelhof, 1 Viertelhof; Hofkastenamt Ansbach : 3 half yards) and the Teutonic Order (Stadtvogteiamt Eschenbach: 3 yards, 2 half yards, 1 estate, 2 mills; Office Nuremberg : 1 estate).

As part of the community edict, Gotzendorf was assigned to the Sauernheim tax district, formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the rural community of Sauernheim, founded in 1810 . With the second community edict (1818) Gotzendorf was re-incorporated into the newly formed rural community of Wattenbach . This was incorporated into the municipality of Lichtenau on January 1, 1972 as part of the regional reform .
