history

prehistory

In the Hochstädter Forest there are two groups of barrows , south of the road to Hanau on the edge of the Braubach lowland the Töngeswald burial ground (probably Bronze Age barrow ) and north of the road in the Burghege forest district ( Hallstatt period ). They were excavated in 1884 and 1878 by the Hanau District Association for Hessian History and Regional Studies .

middle Ages

The oldest surviving mention of Hochstadt can be found in a document from 846.

Hochstadt belonged to the Electorate of Mainz , but was given to Hanau as a fief . In the rule and later county of Hanau , from 1458: County Hanau-Münzenberg , Hochstadt belonged to the office of Büchertal . However, numerous other rights and goods also had here, such as the monasteries Lorsch , Fulda and Haina , the branch of the Antoniter Order in Roßdorf and the Lords of Eppstein .

The ring wall , which is still largely in place today, was built around 1350 . In 1375 a pastor and a vicar are mentioned. The later desolation of Groschlag was parish off to Hochstadt. Groschlag fell desolate before the Thirty Years' War began . The patronage of the church of Hochstadt was held by the Lords of Karben , and since 1510 the Georgskirche in Friedberg . The middle church authority was the archdeaconate of the provost of St. Maria ad Gradus in Mainz, Landkapitel Roßdorf .

The main occupations at this time were agriculture and viticulture .

Historical forms of names

In documents that have survived, Hochstadt was mentioned under the following names (the year it was mentioned in brackets):

  • Hohunsteter marca (846)
  • Hohstat (1256)
  • Hohinstat (1265)

Early modern age

In the middle of the 16th century, the Reformation took hold in the county of Hanau-Münzenberg, initially in its Lutheran form. In a "second Reformation", the denomination of the County of Hanau-Munzenberg was changed again: From 1597 Count Philipp Ludwig II pursued a decidedly reformed church policy. He made use of the Jus reformandi , his right as sovereign to determine the denomination of his subjects, and made this largely binding for the county, as was the case in Hochstadt. During the time of the consistorial constitution , the clergyman in charge of the pastor of Hochstadt was in office in Bergen . From the end of the 17th century there was a Lutheran congregation in Hochstadt in addition to the Reformed church. Their pastor also looked after the Lutheran congregation in Kesselstadt . The Lutheran and Reformed congregations of the former county of Hanau-Münzenberg were united in the Hanau Union in 1818 .

After the death of the last Hanau count, Johann Reinhard III. , 1736, Landgrave Friedrich I of Hessen-Kassel inherited the County of Hanau-Münzenberg and thus also the office of Büchertal with Hochstadt on the basis of an inheritance contract from 1643.

Modern times

During the Napoleonic period, Hochstadt was under French military administration from 1806 to 1810 and then belonged to the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt , Hanau Department, from 1810 to 1813 . Then it fell back to Hessen-Kassel, now called " Electorate of Hesse ". A fundamental administrative reform was carried out here in 1821: The office of Büchertal was added to the newly formed Hanau district.

In the 1930s a settlement was built west of the town center, in the 1960s the first larger apartment buildings in the east and at the turn of the millennium the residential area on the site of the former Kling company.

On July 1, 1974, the municipalities of Hochstadt, Bischofsheim , Wachenbuchen and the city of Dörnigheim were merged into the city of Maintal by means of state law as part of the regional reform in Hesse .

The coat of arms of the municipality of Hochstadt in what was then the district of Hanau was approved by the Hesse Ministry of the Interior on September 16, 1963 .

The coat of arms shows the first letter of the municipality of Hochstadt. Above that is the old Hochstadt placemark . The colors red and gold go back to the County of Hanau , to which the place formerly belonged.

flag

The flag was approved by the Hessian Ministry of the Interior on March 23, 1965 and is described as follows:

“Between narrow golden side stripes a wide red central panel. In the upper half the coat of arms. "

Attractions

Landmarks of the district are the elevated Obertor, part of a medieval, still largely preserved curtain wall and the shooting house from the early modern era, located north in the orchards .

The most important architectural monument is the fortified church of St. Kilian near the Obertore . Major parts of the church and its surrounding wall go back to the time before the first millennium. The interior is decorated with valuable ceiling and wall paintings. A memorial stone for the Siamese twins Schernink, who were born on site in 1642 and died after a few days, is unusual . The defensive tower at the entrance to the church is now a bell and clock tower. The original church tower no longer exists.

Hochstadt is part of the Hessian Apple Wine Route , which leads from Frankfurt to Hanau. It opens up the largest contiguous orchard meadow area in the country. Of particular importance are still present in the district Hochstädter old Sorbus domestica -Trees.

Economy and Infrastructure

Economic structure

Hochstadt is located in the Rhine-Main area , a good business location. In the south, Hochstadt borders on the Maintal-Mitte industrial park, where many companies are located. Today, Norma-Rasmussen GmbH, a supplier to the automotive industry specializing in connection technology, is the largest local company. The plant has its origins in the "Zschopauer Maschinenfabrik JS Rasmussen" (brand: DKW ).

The Höhl country press, one of the oldest cider presses in Germany , has been in Hochstadt since 1779 .

Kling was the leading veneer factory in Europe, but is closed today.

traffic

The Maintal Ost station is located in the south of the zone at the Frankfurt-Hanau Railway and is served by regional trains the relation Frankfurt Maintal Hanau (-Aschaffenburg). The railway line separates Hochstadt from Dörnigheim.

The Bundesautobahn 66 also runs through the district and separates the town center from the commercial area and the "Klingsee" housing estate, which was built on the site of the former veneer factory until around 2002. The other Maintaler districts and Hanau-Hohe Tanne can be reached in a few minutes via country roads.
