NGC 5594 = IC 4412 is a 14.2 mag bright spiral galaxy of the Hubble type S in the constellation Bear Keeper in the northern sky. It is estimated to be 505 million light years from the Milky Way and about 165,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies IC 4405 , IC 4418 , IC 4423 .
The object was discovered on May 19, 1784 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "eF, vS, stellar, verified with 240 power". The observation of Stéphane Javelle on July 14, 1895 led to an entry in the index catalog with slightly different position data under IC 4412 .
